Teagan Shephard Can anybody give me advice on how to play the two notes with the same finger, like the two notes on the 8th fret on the b and e string without playing them at the same time, i tried rolling my finger but i think I'm doing it wrong and letting the 8 on the b ring out instead of separating the notes
Teagan Shephard
Reply hidden. Show this reply
Teagan Shephard Thank you, I'll keep trying to roll it lmao
Ids Schiere
Reply hidden. Show this reply
Ids Schiere It really is a roll. Rolls are really hard at first so dont ve discouraged if you dont get it instantly. Basically if you have the e string you're gonna try to lift off that part of your finger slightly and the same for the high e string

Ids Schiere Start really slow with a metronome and only start speeding up when you get it.

Eva Den Hartog I was wondering, Syn you keep your thumb above the neck all the time, but for me with the big stretches it just feels logical to put my thumb behind the neck so I can reach further. I can do it with keeping my thumb above the neck but it's harder ;P Does it matter much ( it seems to me that you have more stability with your thumb above the neck)?
Eva Den Hartog
Reply hidden. Show this reply
Eva Den Hartog Thank you very much! I kinda switch a bit between my thumb above of below, just what feels more comfortable, but for muting it's indeed very usefull to keep your thumb above it πŸ™‚
Grzegorz Bryla
Reply hidden. Show this reply
Grzegorz Bryla For me I always keep my thumb above the neck, that's very comfortable for me, even when i'm doing big stretches, because i have giant fingers :D. Thumb is very usefull for rock/blues players, because we can mute low strings. In this Syn's solo it isn't necessarily to keep thumb, because we can mute other strings with right hand. If keeping thumb above the neck is uncomfortable, you don't need it :).

Chris Reyes I've been waiting to get the email on when this site would be up and running and was really excited once I saw it was ready to go! I plan on taking every etude and tabbing it out and placing each ten from the 4 categories and organizing them into 4 folders so each day I can take one from each folder and practice each for 30 minutes and get good 2 hour sesh. I haven't been this happy learning guitar parts in a long time!

Michael Anesetti
Reply hidden. Show this reply
Michael Anesetti With most of those things its personal preference. Like Syn uses 10-52 gauge strings (last i saw) but for me since i don't play to much lead. I use a different set that i found just works for me (11 14 18 32 48 54) so strings come down to experimentation. Maintenance depends on your knowledge of tools and guitar systems if your neck is bent and you aren't 99% sure how to fix it take it to a tech. Don't risk breaking it because you aren't sure. Bad pickups? better know how to solder. EQ? personal preference again. i like my tone to be meaty but not very bassy because its the bassists job to provide low end not me as the guitarist. So I have more mid than bass for my amp (Bass 4-5 Mid 6-7 High 5-6). Pedals depend on your need if you're playing metal you'll really only need a noise gate, an overdrive ( only if you lower the gain on you amp to use this), and maybe a compressor for solos (if even). It just depends on what your ear wants to hear. There isn't really a set in stone way to do any of this just figure out what you like and keep an open mind for anything else you may hear. Keep at it!!

Rami Jawlakh Hello everyone. I'm struggling with sweep picking when it comes to 4-5 strings. I feel like my picking hand isn't "in sync" with my fretting hand. Some tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
Ioannis C
Reply hidden. Show this reply
Ioannis C Hi, I had the same problem when I started practicing sweep picking for me it helped a lot to just practise the picking hand sweep motion (not picking each string individually but rather "sweeping" in one fluid motion) to the slowest tempo on a metronome and then slowly adding the fretting hand when I felt comfortable .. from there it's just practice really. Also I started with two string sweeps, then three, four etc rather than directly going for the crazy 5-6 string sweeps I still quite suck but hey music is an endless journey πŸ˜€ Greetings from Germany

Sean McKeown the wide stretch in the first couple bars is really hard for me. Any tricks to make that easier?
Eric Latham
Reply hidden. Show this reply
Eric Latham Are you holding your hand in line with the note, closer to the 8th fret? If so, try keeping your hand in the middle. You don't have to keep your palm against the neck, you can pivot your whole hand off your index finger to reach the note.
