Megadeth: Captive Honour - Guitar Cover

Original Music by Megadeth
I don't think there's anything else that I can tell you that I haven't said before! Your guitar playing is solid. However to play devil's advocate, every time you post you always do a cover. I scrolled through your media content just to make sure I was right and I really would like to see you step out of the comfort zone of doing covers all the time. You are an amazing guitarist and you have proven to us that you can cover anything from classic punk to classic thrash and all in between. I personally would like to see something different from you in the aspect of you growing. I would love to see how you handle the lessons on here because you are a great player and I'm sure watching you do them I could learn a lot from you. Or even hear something original from you. You ooze Talent and I would like to hear more of you and not just covers🖤💚🖤

Been meaning to get back to you since you took the time to give such a detailed constructive comment. I should definitely balance my ratios for sure. When I first started playing I was probably just 90/10 the other way sitting in my room and playing scales all day. The last few years is the first time in my 20 years of on/off playing (mostly off) that the fun side of the house is actually starting to come together: the instinctual side of music, actually playing tunes and improv. And being in a cover band I got into habits of making my practicing more like prac-app just learning alot of tunes. Partially because time management but also partially just being lazy. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't go too far the other way and neglect the technique side of the house. My vibrato for one as you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg that needs the kinks worked out. Alas the bucket list never ends. Maybe I'll get that done in the next 10 years lol. As for my comfort zone. I wish. TBH it doesn't exist. It ranges from self-conscious to extremely self conscious, own worst critic kind of thing. I meticulously work out these covers for hours and hours and hours and days. And it's never perfect. I want to be clear I'm not doing this to just display any apparent badassery, so if I seem to be making it look easy then I'll just take the compliment. I'm happy if someone gets something out of it, inspiration or a new lick or anything. But I'm just very gradually learning harder tunes and different styles and putting them up here for the community to enjoy and also give me feedback in a safe but also critical environment. I thought about what you said, and actually applied the brakes the last couple weeks, even if just a bit, and actually went back to my old method books, basic sight reading, etc. Even went back to Lesson One on here of holding the guitar and went lesson by lesson. I think it's good for everyone at all levels to do that and "freshen up" so to speak. Fundamentals are everything. Everytime one does this you can build the foundation back stronger and work out more kinks. I think one could spend a lifetime just playing even one style of music or one technique and it would never be perfect. I saw Syn say something similar on one of his tips.
