Hi, everyone! For those of you who don't know me yet, my name is Anna Luiza, I'm from Brazil and I have 0 experience in the guitar world. This is my first video. I've decided to record and post my first practice of the C major scale. Even though it's very rough, I'm very happy I was able to overcome my fear of exposing myself. As you can see, I'm still getting familiar with the fretboard, the strings, the right way to hold the pick... It's all very new to me. I hope soon I can watch this video again and see how much progress I've made!

  • Do you guys think that Californication, by the RHCP, is a good song for a beginner to learn? I was listening to it earlier today and put it on my list of songs I'd like to play, but I don't know if it's a big step for a beginner.
I haven't been practicing guitar for the past 3 days, 'cause this week has been crazy for my family. I lost an aunt yesterday, after a battle against cancer. I don't have energy or focus now.
The school is a great distraction to everything, but I need to get back my motivation to study again!
I was practicing the strumming and, at first, I wasn't using my wrist so much and was putting too much strength on my fingers. Then I let my wrist more "loose", and I noticed it got a little easier, but, at the same time, it was harder to hold the pick, like, my fingers couldn't keep gripping it so much and sometimes the pick just flew out of my hand 😆 Does anyone have a tip for this? Like, is there a specific way to hold the pick so I can have a good grip of it AND keep strumming nicely? Or is it just a matter of time and experience?

Don’t worry too much about the pick flying out of your hand, it still happens to me despite some years of playing XD
Some people recommend to hold it in a certain way, which is the common one I guess, but it’s up to you and how you feel more comfortable. Many famous guitarists hold the pick their own way and still play amazingly.
Try not to put too much strength on your right hand if it makes sense, it’s unnecessary to hold the pick and will make your strumming sound “mechanical”. It’s all a matter of time and experience, as you said, keep practicing and it will all get natural :)

Pick flying is always going to happen, you basically learn how to correct it without people noticing after a while 😅

@Lucrezia @Ids Schiere when I saw the pick flying, I thought the reason was that I was playing too bad lol
Thank you for the tips! I'm gonna practice trying not to use too much strength on my right hand!
Well, I just got my first guitar! It arrived at my home today!
I wanna thank my friend @Radu-Cristian Perde for the guidance through this much stressful process of buying the first axe.
Soon, I'll upload my first video of my practice!
    I'm so happy!
I'm having such a headache trying to buy a used guitar. I think the seller is trying to scam me 😫 I'll just go to a music store and buy something new and cheap, 'cause I'm on a budget. Oh, God...

@Radu-Cristian Perde I did a little research and talked to my cousin, who has more experience with those things, and he said the price of the guitar was a little high for something that wasn't new. And then I asked the guy who's selling it to send me a video, testing the guitar, so I could see how was everything working and show it to a friend of mine who's been playing the guitar for years; and the guy told me he took off the strings, because he wasn't using the guitar, so he couldn't send me a video.

@Radu-Cristian Perde Also, I'm not sure if this kind of guitar is still being made, 'cause I searched for it on Google and couldn't find any place to buy it. The only two offers I found available were from sellers who had their offer paused, 'cause they were classified as not reliable (but I could see the price of a new product and it was almost the same as the used one that the guy was trying to sell me). So, I think it's better if I go to music store and talk to professionals, try and buy something that is good, but that's also affordable.

@redlipsofdeceit I used to work in music retail so if ever, I can help you out with that. I am also curious what model he is selling and what price! And also, you can find some gems in the used market but then again, it depends of where you are in the world so yeah a music store may be your best bet
I hope everyone has a happy and safe Christmas! Enjoy it with your close family, always wash your hands and eat a lot!
    Merry A7Xmas!
