Hey there Richard! While I am not a professional on economy picking, there were some things that I picked up on watching Synyster Gates play live that I tried to apply to my own playing and it helped a lot. It actually improve my speed quite dramatically. So I’ll ask you this, how close are you keeping your Rhythm hand to the strings? I had a tendency to bring my arm and my hand away from the strings. It’s kind of really hard to explain. But it came more from the wrist than actually moving my whole hand and my whole arm like I used to. I really ended up having to Snug my hand against the strings. Not only did it help with muting, but you make like a certain kind of broom sweeping motion with your wrist. And it also helps to have the pick angled properly. I don’t know if this helps. Maybe you could upload a video and I can watch it to see if I can point anything out
Thanks jak. I think my hand position is okay I think it’s more left hand speed which is the issue. I call bullshit. Syn and pg are aliens from anogher dimention and this is all just an illusion I give up lol
I’ll upload a video when I get chance
lol. Eco picking took me two years – and I practice everyday. As with everything, play it with a metronome at an annoyingly slow BPM. NO! SLOWER!
Then practice at that speed longer than you want to. NO! LONGER! Bump it up two or three BPM the next day and repeat. Do it everyday for a half-hour. This process will make you want to eat your own eyeballs and shake babies. But after a month your eco picking will sound like cards in the spokes of a bike. Do kids even put cards in their spokes anymore? That’s a rhetorical question. I don’t give a shit. Point is – practice at slow speeds and you will see results!
“thats a rhetorical question”……quickly deletes the reply i was about to give lol.
thanks for the pointers PG i will give it a try……and ‘eat your own eyeballs and shake babies’ would be a good album name for a death metal band no? not sure what message that sends to the younger generation but who cares
